One of main methods we use on designing user experience is "Persona". Persona firstly introduced by Alan Cooper in his book titled "The Inmates Are Running The Asylum". In short, persona is representation model of real user with realistic description. Personas, plural form of persona, are created so that the whole user experience design process is built to satisfy their goals.
When we do consulting on user experience design, we use persona method with these following steps:
We conduct a research of your potential users about their goals, identity, motivation, and education background and other related information that significant to the way they interact with your desired IT artifact. Then we create several personas that represent different group of real users.
We start to sort out which personas need more specific interaction design so they can achieve their intended goal. These primary personas usually consist of limited number of personas. Two to three personas are usually made into primary personas.
Having the primary personas available, we create the scenario about how these primary personas interact with the designed system. Knowing their detailed description and goal, scenario definition can be conducted in more efficient and accurate way.
The last step of this activity is of course designing how your user will interact with your software. This step includes defining what interface to build, how the components are placed, how the information is served, etc. Well, let's keep the detail for the time we meet, won't we?
